John Oliver 1824 - 1893

 

Son of Francis and Grace(Knowles)Oliver and 1 of 6 children.James 1820,Sarah 1822,John 1824 - 1893,Thomas 1827 - 1908,William 1829 - 1904 and David 1831.

 

John was christened on 22nd August 1824 in Wootton St Lawrence in Hampshire.

 

The first census from 1841 shows John his 2 brothers Thomas and David living with Francis and Grace in East Oakley,Hampshire.

 

On the 10th January 1850 Johns mother Grace dies of a diseased liver.She is listed as living in Wootton St Lawrence.

 

On the 7th September 1850 John marries Mary Piper in the parish of Tunworth in Southampton.

 

The 1851 census shows Francis(father)John,Mary(wife) and William(brother) still listed as living in East Oakley.

 

Louisa Oliver is born 7th September 1851 in Wootton St Lawrence.

 

Sarah Oliver is born 23rd July 1853 in Wootton St Lawrence.

 

Elizabeth Oliver is born 10th February 1856 in Wootton St Lawrence.

 

Between the 10th of Febuary 1856 and 1st June 1858 the Oliver family moves to Basingstoke,Hampshire.

 

Fanny Oliver is born 1st June in Hackwood Road,Basingstoke.

 

James Oliver is born 10th November 1860 in Hackwood Road,Basingstoke.

 

The 1861 census shows John and Mary and the 5 children living in Hackwood Road in Basingstoke.

 

Mary Ann Oliver is born 11th December 1863 in Hackwood Road,Basingstoke.

 

Between 11th December 1863 and 24th February 1867 the Oliver family move to London.

 

Frank Oliver is born 24th February 1867 at 34 Hanley Road,Islington,London.

 

Between 24th February 1867 and 14th July 1869 the Oliver family moves to St James´s Lane in Muswell Hill,London.

 

On the 26th February 1869 Johns father Francis dies aged 77(abcess on brain).He is listed as living in Wootton St Lawrence,Hampshire.

 

Kate Oliver is born 14th July 1869 in St James´s Lane,Muswell Hill,London.

 

Kate Oliver dies of pneumonia on the 22nd November 1869 aged just 4 months.

 

The 1871 census shows John his wife Mary and 4 children,Fanny,James,Mary Ann and Frank living at St James´s Lane,Muswell Hill,London.

 

Harry Oliver(our grandfather) is born 21st June 1871 in St James´s Lane,Muswell Hill,London.

 

On the 4th February 1874 Alice Oliver is born,baptised and dies of inanition(prolonged undernutrition).

 

John starts work in 1875 at St James´s Church in Muswell Hill,London.

 

The 1881 census shows John,Mary with Fanny,James and Frank living in St James´s Lane in Muswell Hill,London.Strangly our grandfather Harry is not listed on the 1881 census.

 

On the 7th December 1881 Johns wife Mary dies of cancer at St Bartholomews hospital London.

 

On the 1st October 1882 John marries Emma Bendall at St James´s Church(where he works).

 

John Bendall Oliver is born 19th January 1884 in St James´s Lane,Muswell Hill,London.

 

In 1890 ill health forces John to retire from work at the church.

 

The 1891 census shows John,Emma and John Bendall living at 2 Hope Cottages,St James Lane,Muswell Hill,London.The cottages no longer exist and although rebuilt St James´s Lane,the church and the viaduct still exist today.

 

The 12th of January 1893 John dies of acute bronchitis.Our grandfather Harry was in attendance.

 

As of yet I have no idea where John was buried but I can confirm it is NOT Highgate Cemetery which was the closest big cemetery.
